"My understanding is that the song is about Stefan Lux, a Czech journalist and a Jew, who in 1936 burst into a meeting of the League of Nations, pulled out a pistol, shouted "C'est la dernier coup!" ("This is the last shot!") and shot himself. He was hoping to draw attention to the plight of Jews in Nazi Germany."
