Re: I know you don't wanna hear it, but..
I loved Cliff - it was devastating when he died, but I always disliked how they treated Jason. It was grief of course but they made him the butt of sooooo much hazing, much of it cruel and unnecessary, I thought they displayed some really shitty sides to their personalities and I don't blame him for finally throwing in the towel.
Honestly, they've been far better to Rob and if they'd been that cool with Jase, he'd still be a member as far as I am concerned. He was NO Cliff but he certainly supplied some kickass fire on the bass. I really got to like him - it's a shame he left but it happens you know, and I hope he's happy.
Sometimes you have to forget all the !@#$ you hear. No-one knows the real truth but the band and they've all admitted they treated Jase like crap, so in the end, maybe his not so pleasant words about them were sorta justified.
Sorry, I ramble outrageously here but I love Metallica and it saddened me to see such !@#$ goin on.

Re: I know you don't wanna hear it, but..
I don't dislike Newstead... but then I'm not the huge Metallica fan that these other chick are.... I used to be back in the day.... I had Ride the Lightening on ALBUM... it was one of my first real heavy heavy records.... And I was alllllllll Metallica, as was just about everyone in the early 80's. I was also a Flotsam & Jetsom fan.... and an Exodus fan... and a Megadeth fan....so for me, I never really cared one way other another when members from those bands all played musical chairs... lol.
I remember being devastated when Cliff died. I remember seeing Metallica on the Master of Puppets tour, opening up for Ozzy who was doing his Ultimate Sin tour..... We were second row and right in front of Cliff the entire show. It was badass... of course I didn't know then that I needed to savor those moments and burn them to memory because he would be gone ver very soon after that.
But when Cliff died... alot of people in my generation HAD already experienced a tragedy of that magnetude... Randy Rhoads. I remember going and seeing Ozzy on Bark at the Moon tour and watching the crowd boo at Jake E. Lee. It was horrible. So, I guess I was pretty accepting of Jason we came into Metallica. As fantastic of a bass player as Cliff was.... And Justice for All was and is to me simply the best Metallica recording AND tour I have ever experienced.
Through the years, Metallica's musical interests went in one direction and mine went in another.... so I really have no personal opinion of individual band members. I saw the Some Kind of Monster thing, and I thought "jesus, someone give them all a tampon already."
So bascially, what I am trying to say is that my opinion doesnt really count or mean a hioll of beans in this thread.... LMAO... I'll go away now.
